CAMP Federal PAC F.A.Q.
What is a PAC?
A political action committee (PAC) is defined by the Federal Election Campaign Act as a separate segregated fund formed by a corporation, labor union, or association to raise money for political activity. Funds may be gathered voluntarily from members, employees or shareholders. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) established under Federal law regulates PACs. CAMP Federal PAC is a “multicandidate committee,” meaning it has more than 50 contributors, has been registered with the FEC for at least six months, and has made contributions to at least five candidates for Federal office. Multicandidate PACs can give higher contributions than non-multicandidate PACs. For more specific information regarding Federal political action committees, please visit www.fec.gov.
How much money can individuals and companies give to CAMPPAC?
The Federal Election Commission has set limits on how much an individual may contribute to a political action committee. Only certain individuals, partnerships and LLCs can contribute to CAMP’s Federal PAC and are limited to $5,000 a year. Corporations are prohibited from contributing to Federal PACs.
How much money can CAMPPAC give to federal candidates?
CAMP Federal PAC may give $5,000 to each candidate for the general election and for a primary. According to the Federal Election Commission, election cycles for the U.S. House of representatives are considered in two-year cycles and for the U.S Senate six-year cycles. CAMP Federal PAC may give a total of $10,000 to Federal candidates each election cycle. CAMP Federal PAC has no limits on how many candidates it can give to.
Is my contribution tax deductible?
No. Contributions to CAMPPAC are not tax deductible.
Can a CAMP Chapter use chapter funds to contribute to the CAMP Federal PAC?
No, because corporate contributions are prohibited. Further, CAMP PAC, as a “separate segregated fund” of CAMP, may only raise money from its “restricted class” – administrative and executive (non-hourly) employees of CAMP, and administrative and executive employees of its members, shareholders of its members, and non-corporate business entity members. CAMP and its chapters, may, however, use their general funds to defray the PAC’s administrative and fundraising costs.
How can I contribute to CAMPPAC?
You may contribute to CAMP Federal PAC via check
or credit card. Cash can be accepted in small amounts up to $100 (per calendar
year per donor). For record keeping reasons, CAMP Federal PAC would appreciate
check or credit card donations. Checks must be from personal accounts.
Corporate checks will not be deposited into our multi-candidate account. Those
checks will be deposited into CAMP’s State PAC account to support state
candidates. (JOIN FEDERAL PAC HERE)
