Call to Action Successful!

On behalf of CAMP and NAMB – the Association of Mortgage Professionals, we would like to thank everyone who participated in our Call to Action regarding the removal of the GSE fees from H.R. 22, The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. Your voices were heard loud and clear. The House Financial Services Chairman, Rep. Jeb Hensarling (TX-5), released a statement yesterday commending Conference Committee Chairman Rep. Bill Shuster (PA-9) for his work.  “I want to commend Chairman Shuster for his dedication to an open process both in the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and on the House floor. His efforts to streamline existing federal highway programs and provide states with more flexibility are a step in the right direction.

“Our nation’s highways shouldn’t be funded out of the functional equivalent of a tax on Americans’ bank accounts or on the backs of home buyers, particularly those who are forced to backstop Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  But those were two of the Senate’s bad – and completely unacceptable – funding sources we started off with.  Chairmen Neugebauer and Huizenga offered an alternative that, while far from ideal, is far superior to the Senate’s new taxes on bank accounts and home buying." 2016 Fannie, Freddie Loan Limit

In case you missed it last week, the Federal Housing Finance Agency announced the new Fannie, Freddie loan limits for 2016, and they remain the same at $417,000 for most of the country. There was an increase in 39 “high-cost” counties nationwide. California had four of those counties:

  • Monterey County, which includes Salinas, will increase by $26,450, from $502,550 to $529,000.
  • Napa County, which includes Napa, the conforming loan limit will increase from $615,250 to $625,500, an increase of $10,250.
  • Sonoma County, which includes Santa Rosa, the conforming loan limit will rise from $520,950 to $554,300, an increase of $33,350.
  • San Diego County, rising $18,400 from $562,350 to $580,750

TRID
We are just about two months into the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure (TRID) Rule. How well are you treading with TRID? It's the little things that everyone seems to be forgetting that can affect the closing. Don't forget to remind realtors that invoices need to be given to you sooner rather than at the end of the transaction. This includes home inspections, home warranties, or sewer lateral inspections. Speaking of TRID, I came across this interesting article on TRID and Millennials. Talking TRID, I'm sure you have noticed some delays, we all have. Anytime you are dealing with changes, you learn how to better navigate the lending system. I did come across an article about a title company that is choosing not to implement TRID. Click here to read more.
